Sometimes, it’s great to be offline.

It’s our daily business to create new formats and ideas. One of which is: the EIGHTYDOTS Academy. It’s a loose series of sessions, which challenge conventional thinking, introduce innovative ideas and provide insights. Whether it’s cooperations such as Creative Mornings, SheSays Munich or the Munich Creative Business Week, we’re all ears for all kind of formats. Needless to say, our SKYDOT space is available for external events, too.

CULTURAL CONNECTIONS.

Digital communication happens in the blink of an eye, or rather a tap of the finger. We’re able to communicate all over the world, all the time, to any and all. How does global communication take into consideration cultural differences? How does intercultural work look like? What good does culture do in a digital world that is borderless per definition? During the Munich Creative Business Week, we hosted a discussion about intercultural "connectedness".

Artificial Intelligence: From Autonomous Driving to Chatbots

Artificial intelligence (AI) has improved leaps and bounds to a point where AI based applications are widespread across all industries such as technology, automotive, banking, marketing, and entertainment. This provides tremendous opportunities for businesses to increase operational efficiencies, improve corporate strategies and reduce costs, among countless other possible uses. This meetup discussed two leading AI based solutions in two different industries - Autonomous Driving for Automotive Enterprises and Chatbots for Digital Companies. The first Disrupt meetup of the Data Science and AI community was held at EIGHTYDOTS. It aims at bringing together blockchain enthusiastic enterprises and individuals that want to get to know the technology, as well as understand how it can be used and applied.

DIGITAL COMMUNICATION: THE END OF ‘GOOD’ LANGUAGE?

Another successful event with Creative Mornings Munich. This time we hosted and presented the topic for July: END. In recent years, there’s been quite a bit debate about how digital media (instant messaging services, social media) influence the way we use language. From hashtags, to new acronyms, words changing meaning (e.g. wall, feed) and the introduction of emojis - for digital natives, that’s all they know. But the way we use our language digitally ultimately has consequences on how we use language in the “real” world. However, not everybody is in favor of this development. Take for example the Oxford Word of the Year 2015: “ 😂 “, which sparked the good-old “It’s awful, the way kids talk these days. Our language is being ruined” conversation. Is it though? Can we consider emojis as words, or even language? Is our language really deteriorating? Or is what we experience here simply another typical case of language evolution? For more about the speaker, check out the full article in the News section.
